The History of Jalwa
Jalwa was founded in Montclair, as a modern take of Traditional Indian cuisine. Our restaurant was created to bring not only great taste Indian food to the community of Montclair but also to introduce a new take on Indian cuisine.
Jalwa is a Modern North Indian Restaurant based in the heart of Montclair. Our menu pays tribute to traditional Indian dishes and recipes but crafted and delivered in a way that will leave you wanting to try more.
The ambiance at Jalwa is relaxed yet sophisticated, which makes us the perfect place for either a special night out or to catch up with friends and family. We offer a lunch menu from 11:30 am - 3pm and afterwards offer Dinner with an array of different entrees, vegetarian options and gluten-free meals as well
Meet the Owners
Akshay Jhanjee, The Founder Of Khyber Grill Frontier Indian Cuisine & Caterers, Is A Second-Generation Restaurateur And Caterer. The Son Of Raja Jhanjee, Co-owner of the famous Bukhara grill in NYC, Jhanjee first learned his craft by working alongside his father since the age of 14.
Akshay Went Through An Extensive Training In Every Hospitality Department From Restaurant, Catering, Bar & Banquets. He Eventually Branched Off In 2011 By Opening A Restaurant In The Heart Of New Jersey, South Plainfield, Has Now Established A Phenomenal Reputation In The South- Asian Restaurant And Catering Business.
Popular By The Name Of Khyber Grill Restaurant And Caterers, His Very First Enterprise Was Awarded The Best Indian Restaurant Two Years In A Row By New Jersey Monthly Magazine. Accolades Only Continue To Grow Since Then.
In 2017 Jhanjee Decided It Was Time To Open A Location In North Jersey, A Location That Would Replicate The Same Service & Cuisine Standards As The Previous Location. In October of 2019, Akshay & His Younger Brother Arnav Teamed Up To Open A New Location, Delhi Accent In Ridgewood NJ.
After The Success And Obvious Desire For New Age Indian Cuisine, Akshay and Arnav Are Proud To Present Their Newest Endeavors Including Jalwa. Montclair Maintains Its Vibrant And Open-Minded Scene Which Makes For The Perfect Match In Jalwa. Although There Is More To Come, The Jhanjee Brothers Cannot Wait To Create Their Space in the community.
